6 Plugins to Translate Your Blog

There are many advantages and disadvantages if you chose to take your blog to an international level.

Here’s a list of plugins that will do just that:

1. Wordpress Global Translator Plugin by Nothing2Hide is one of the most popular translation WordPress Plugins. It is a stand alone WordPress Plugin, which means it doesn’t require any additional files to work. Just activate the Plugin and it puts a small table of international flags in the header of your blog which, when clicked, will translate your blog content into that flag’s language.

2. Wordpress Translation Plugin by carlos quiles is a very simple php script that adds translations from and into most language pairs offered by Google, Altavista and Tranexp. Unlike other scripts, like this plugin and this widget, which are also Wordpress translator utilities, dnghu does not use flag images, it is probably the simplest possible script you can write to add this functionality, and it should be valid XHTML.

3. Wordpress Translate by Monosylabic Manifesto is a simple drop in way for users to view your blog in their language. Its easy for any most users to add this functionality to their site.

4. Translate WordPress Widget by Trev’s Travels it’s a simple plugin that works with Google to provide translations. It includes a translation flag bar. Simple and easy.

5. GG_Translate by Grin God is another Wordpress plugin that provides site users with links to translate the blog into their own language. The plugin detects which languages the users browser will accept and, if there are any which are different to the blogs published language, it will provide links to translations in those languages. For translations the plugin uses the Google and Altavista Babel translation engines, favouring the Babel engine over the Google engine. If no translations are available for a particular translation a link will not be provided.

6. Angsuman’s Translator Plugin is one of the most popular translation plugins out there. It provides automatic machine translation of your blog in thirteen different languages - German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Dutch, Swedish, Greek, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. The only downside is that it costs USD $30 to download. This includes six months free technical support and free lifetime upgrades.

It’s up to you if which one to use. I prefer the Wordpress Global Translator Plugin ;)
